Shawnti is a mother, wife, sister, granddaughter, auntie, daughter, and friend. She is an active community volunteer, is a member of multiple civic and professional organizations, including serving on various Boards. Shawnti is descended of Scottish/Irish Immigrants by way of Canada, who were looking for a better life and Enslaved Africans forcibly removed from their homelands to build, without compensation, the foundation of economic and political wealth held in the United States of today. She humbly resides in the place of the Coast Salish people who have inhabited the land since time immoral and continue to exercise the Sovereign right to exist after genocidal acts by individuals and governmental programs.
Shawnti is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) who received their MSW from the University of Washington in 2004. She started her social work career in public child welfare through CWTAP, working for the state of Washington. Their primary areas of practice have focused on Mental Health & Wellbeing, Child Abuse and Neglect, Adult Education, and systemic impact of oppression on Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Mixed | Multiracial peoples.
Building spaces that foster belonging and growth is important to Shawnti. Through their work with Mixed Snohomish County, offering Affinity Space for Mixed | Multiracial Women, Parent Education for parents of Mixed | Multiracial children, public speaking and presentations, they help to foster a community for those in the liminal spaces of racialized experiences.
In providing therapy services based in DBT, ACT, and CBT, Shawnti supports helping professionals to develop effective strategies that lead to practical solutions to address depression and anxiety as a result of events based in secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, moral injury, intersectionality, and executive functioning difficulties.
Supporting the up and coming clinical social workers, grounded in justice work on behalf of individuals and systems, Shawnti offers Clinical Supervision (WA approved) for those engaged in the work towards the LICSW. Shawnti’s focus is on agency engagement as a social worker: understanding the macro impact on clients and how to include advocacy as an integral part of clinical practice.
